Premium Off-Season Hockey Development Program

RHP Training Centre is pleased to once again offer our Premium Hockey Development Program for Summer 2019.  The Premium Development Program will consist of an On-Ice component as well as a Physical Training component.  The 2019 edition of the program will be offered to players currently participating at the Competitive Level.

This summer’s program will be open to female and male players in the PeeWee, Bantam and Midget age categories.

On-Ice Component

Participants in the Premium Development Program will be tested on ice with the National Skills Standard & Testing Program from Hockey Canada – Forehand/Backhand Passing, Weave Agility Skate, Shooting Accuracy/Shooting Speed, Figure ‘8’ Stickhandling, Transition – Agility Skate, Forward/Backward – Speed Skate

The results will give us an indication of where each athlete stands and what opportunities for improvement they have.  Throughout the summer, we will work on all hockey skills that will give the players an opportunity to improve their weaker skills.

At the conclusion of the summer, the same testing will be used to determine the player’s progress during the program.  Combined with the physical training component of the Premium Development Program, it is an ideal situation for maximum results leading into the season.

Physical Training Component

The Physical Training component for participants in the Bantam and Midget category will be tested using off ice tools and methods that national-level and professional athletes are measured by.  Initially, athletes’ movements will be evaluated using the Functional Movement Screen (FMS) and the Y Balance Test which are both standard tools used by the NHL, NFL, MLB and NBA.  Athletes in the PeeWee division will be introduced to the FMS and Y Balance Test over the course of the program.

Performance will be evaluated using tests that prove where the athletes are currently and we will show them where they compare against standards set by some of the world’s top teams.  This 3-month long program will give athletes the time they need to move better, be stronger and faster than ever before and ready for the upcoming season.

In addition, participants in the Premium Development Program can access the Athletic Therapist, Certified Nutritionist as well as a Sports Psychologist that are available at RHP Training Centre.
